Binghamton Gets By Volleyball 3-1

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Katie Brody led three Bearcats in double-figures kills with 13 as Binghamton earned a 3-1 (30-20, 26-30, 30-26, 30-27) victory over Stony Brook in America East volleyball action on Friday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Bearcats improved to 11-9 and 3-0.

SB jumped out to a 7-4 lead early on in the opening game, but Binghamton responded with a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 lead and never looked back en route to the 30-20 victory. The Seawolves hit just .105 for the game, while the visitors totalled five service aces and no errors.

In Game 2, the Bearcats took a commanding 15-2 advantage but the Seawolves stormed back with a 6-0 run to pull within 15-8. SB continued to battle back, knotting the game at 25 before taking their first lead on back-to-back block assists by Sarah Votruba to make it 27-25. The Seawolves closed out the game on a Sarah Votruba kill to earn a 30-26 win.

SB came out of the gate taking a 6-2 lead in the third game before Binghamton rallied back to take a 9-7 advantage. The teams traded leads until the Bearcats used a 6-0 run to grab a 19-13 edge and went on to the 30-26 victory.

The Seawolves opened the fourth game with a 10-3 spurt, but the Bearcats used a 7-0 run to tie it at 10-all. The teams traded leads until Binghamton took charge at 24-23 en route to the 30-27 win.

Morgan Sweany totalled a match-high 17 kills and 21 digs, while Noelle Bay added 12 kills and nine digs for the Seawolves. Kate Ruskowski chipped in with 43 assists in the loss.

Brody was joined by Megan Hoag (12) and Jacki Kane (11) in double-figures kills, while Ashley Meffert added a team-best 16 digs for Binghamton.

The Seawolves return to action on Sunday when they travel to UMBC for a 1 p.m. contest.
