Albany, N.Y. - Junior catcher Ali Meacham smacked three home runs and tallied four RBI to lead UAlbany to a doubleheader sweep of Stony Brook in America East Conference softball action on Saturday afternoon at Albany Field. The Great Danes posted scores of 14-0 and 10-2.
UAlbany (21-8, AE 8-1) jetted out to a 7-0 lead after two innings in the opener. Erika Enocksen hit a two-run single down the right-field line to put the Great Danes ahead 2-0 after one inning. Then in the second, Katrina Dunning's three-run blast to left field highlighted a five-run spurt. Kelly Ogden added a sacrifice fly and Ashley Rios had an RBI single.
The Great Danes continued the offensive outpouring with six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth. Julie Gannon and Meacham drilled back-to-back home runs, while Enocksen, Maegan Larsen and Amber Maisonet notched RBI hits.
Amanda Morin and Casey Halloran combined for the no-hit shutout, with Morin picking up the win and improving to 8-1. Stony Brook's Angela Andrews took the loss, surrendering eight hits and nine runs, only two of which were earned, in two innings.
UAlbany jumped out early in the second game with a five-run first inning. Ogden hit a two-run single to the left side and Gannon added her second home run of the day, this one a two-run blast to left.
The Seawolves (14-23, AE 5-4) put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth, slicing the gap to 5-2. Kristen Brust and Hayley Durham belted consecutive solo home runs. UAlbany countered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 9-2. Enocksen led off the inning with a solo homer before Meacham added a two-run shot later in the frame. Ogden tallied her third RBI of the game on a single down the left-field line. Meacham then put an end to the game with a solo home run to left in the bottom of the sixth.
Halloran went the distance to pick up her 11th consecutive victory and is now 11-4 overall. She scattered three hits and two runs over six innings, while striking out six batters. Sarah Hoffman got the loss for Stony Brook, allowing 10 hits and eight runs in four innings of work.
