Sweany Lifts Volleyball to 3-0 Sweep of Fairfield

Morgan Sweany posted a double-double with 19 kills and 13 digs to lead Stony Brook volleyball to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-24) sweep of Fairfield on Tuesday night at the Indoor Sports Complex. The Seawolves have now won six of their last seven outings to improve to 6-5 on the season, while the Stags fell to 7-7.

With Game 1 tied at four early on, the Seawolves opened up a seven point lead at 13-6 fueled by a 9-2 run. The Stags pulled back within two at 16-14, but SB rattled off three straight points and never looked back en route to the 30-22 victory. Sarah Votruba and Melissa Votruba each totalled four kills in the win.

In Game 2, the Seawolves jumped out to an early 10-5 advantage and cruised from there, stretching their lead to as many as 11 at 20-9 following a kill by Morgan Sweany to earn the 30-18 win. Sweany led the way with game-highs of seven kills and five digs.

The teams traded leads throughout the third game before the Seawolves grabbed a 10-9 lead they wouldn't relinquish on their way to the 30-24 victory. Sweany once again led the way with six kills, while Claire Lindner collected nine digs.

Sweany tallied a match-high 19 kills, marking the 12th straight outing she has finished with double-digit kills dating back to last season. Sarah Votruba hit a match-high .444 to go with nine kills, while Lindner finished with a match-high 21 digs in the win. Kate Ruskowski added 36 assists for the Seawolves.

Lindsey Lee and Jazmin Fa'akula led the Stags with 10 kills apiece.

The Seawolves are back in action on Friday when they compete in the Brown Invitational. SB will take on Manhattan in the opener beginning at 4 p.m.
