Box Score

West Hartford, Conn. - Danielle Hood netted 21 points and Erica Messam added 18 as Hartford knocked off Stony Brook 82-64 in America East women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Chase Arena. With the loss, the Seawolves fell to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in league play, while the Hawks improved to 14-2 and 6-0.

"We lacked intensity from the beginning of the game and we were missing shots and then giving up easy baskets, and they took advantage of that," said head coach Maura McHugh.

Trailing 38-28 at the break, the Seawolves opened the second half on a 6-0 run behind a three-pointer by Jessie Boylan and three-point play by Jessica Smith to make it a four-point game. Hartford answered back with a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to push the lead to 14 points at 52-38 with 12:48 to play.

An 8-2 surge capped by a three-point play by Mykeema Ford brought the Seawolves back within eight points at 54-46 with just under nine minutes to play, but that was as close as they could get as Hartford made 12-of-15 free throws over the final 8:34 of the game to pull away for good.

Ford led all scorers with 24 points to go with five rebounds, while Sidney Orndorff added 11 points and Dana Ferraro grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and dished out four assists. Smith, who played just 22 minutes due to foul trouble, saw her 12-game double-figures scoring streak come to an end after scoring just nine points before fouling out with 4:29 remaining in the game.

Ikea Witt scored 14 points to join Hood and Messam in double-figures for the Hawks, while Erica Beverly pulled down 13 boards to go with nine points.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday when they host Maine at 7:00 p.m.
