Jan. 3, 2006

Box Score

Lewisberg, Pa. - Mykeema Ford netted 21 points and Jessica Smith added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Stony Brook held on for a 65-56 victory over Bucknell at Sojka Pavilion on Tuesday night. With the win, the Seawolves swept the two-game season series with the Bison to move to 7-4 on the season, the best start since the 2001-02 campaign.

The Seawolves stretched their 15-point halftime advantage to as many as 18 at the 12:32 mark of the second half, but Bucknell clawed its way back with a 13-6 run capped by a three-pointer by Amanda Brown that just beat the shot clock. That pulled the Bison back within eight points at 56-48 with 3:35 to play.

Stony Brook would not make a field goal over the final five minutes of the game, but make 9-of-10 free throws in the closing 3:22 to not allow Bucknell any closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Ford's game-high 21 points gave her 999 for her career, while Smith collected her 100th career steal in the game. Dana Ferraro pulled down 11 boards while Sidney Orndorff posted a career-high five steals in the victory.

The Seawolves open up America East play on Saturday when they host Vermont at 2 p.m.
