Volleyball Falls To UMBC 3-0

Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped as UMBC was able to defeat the Seawolves 3-0 (30-25, 30-25, 30-23) Friday evening. Morgan Sweany tallied her 12th double-double of the season in the loss. The loss drops the Seawolves to 11-12 overall and 4-2 in America East play. UMBC improves to 10-12 and 3-3 in conference.

Despite hitting for two more kills than the Retrievers in the opening game and outhitting UMBC .349 to .306 in Game 2, the Seawolves found themselves in a two-game deficit. In the third game Stony Brook only hit .071 as UMBC clinched the match with a 30-23 win.

Sweany led the Seawolves with 17 kills and 11 digs, Gulce Nazli Dikecligil added 11 kills and 11 digs and Kaitlyn Deutsch tallied 43 assists and hit .444 with five kills in the loss.

The Seawolves return to action on Sunday when they take on New Hampshire. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
