Gulce Nazli Dikecligil hit .372 with 24 kills and 12 digs to lead the Stony Brook volleyball team past New Hampshire, 3-1 (30-28, 19-30, 30-24, 30-24). With the win Stony Brook improves to 12-12 overall and 5-2 in America East play. New Hampshire falls to 8-14, 3-4.
The Seawolves controlled the pace of the opening game leading throughout until the Wildcats took their first lead of the game at 28-27. Stony Brook responded winning three straight points to close out the first game, 30-28.
Game 2 was a completely different story for the Seawolves. New Hampshire rushed out to a 10-3 lead off of an Emmy Blouin ace to force Stony Brook into an early timeout. The New Hampshire lead reached as many as 12 points as they dominated Game 2, winning 30-19.
Stony Brook responded in the third game as Noelle Bay rattled off three consecutive kills to hand the Seawolves an early 7-3 lead. The Seawolves maintained control of Game 3, holding off the New Hampshire attack for the 30-24 win.
Trailing 8-5 in the fourth game, Stony Brook went on a 6-0 run capped by a pair of kills from Dikecligil to grab an 11-8 lead and force UNH to call a timeout. Stony Brook expanded its lead to 23-15 of a Bay service ace. New Hampshire cut the lead to three at 26-23, but the Seawolves held on for the 30-24 win to clinch the match, 3-1.
Dikecligil led the way for Stony Brook, totaling 24 kills and 12 digs in the match. Morgan Sweany tallied her 13th double-double of the year as the junior added 17 kills and 13 digs. Bay rounded out the Stony Brook attack with 16 kills and nine digs in the win.
The Seawolves return to action when they hit the road to take on Maine on Friday, October 27. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
