Stony Brook Shuts Out UMBC, 2-0

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Adam Ciklic scored his team-leading fifth goal and Mahamadou Simpara added a late goal as the Stony Brook men's soccer team beat UMBC, 2-0, in the America East home opener for the Seawolves. Stony Brook is 4-9-0, 1-2-0 while UMBC is 3-7-3, 0-2-2. The win gave the Seawolves their first conference win this season.

After a scoreless first half, Stony Brook scored their first goal in three games. Junior midfielder Michael Palacio blasted a free kick from 40 yards out into the box that Ciklic headed past Retrievers' goalkeeper Steve King in the 49th minute for a 1-0 lead.

In the 65th minute, Simpara netted the second goal for Stony Brook when the junior midfielder put in a corner kick from Tamer Mohamed.

Rich Skoblicki made five saves for the Seawolves in the shutout including a Dan Bulls' point blank header in the 69th minute and a shot from Bryan Moffa from 25 yards out in the 78th minute.

The Seawolves' next game is on Sunday, October 8 when #25 Boston University comes to town. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
