Great Danes Sweep Volleyball 3-0

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team was swept, 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-25), by America East Conference leading Albany on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Seawolves to 12-16 overall and 5-6 in America East play. With the win Albany improves to 17-9 overall and 10-2 in conference.

In Game 1, the two squads battled back and forth until Albany started to gain control of the game at 13-10 off of a Blair Buchanan kill. The Great Danes increased their lead to seven at 20-13 off of a Seawolf hitting error. Albany maintained its lead and closed out Game 1 30-24 on a Stony Brook attack error.

The Great Danes rushed out to an early 11-5 lead in Game 2 off of a block from Kamisha Kellam and Hillary White. Stony Brook pulled within three points off a Great Dane attack error, but the Albany offense proved to be too much as the Great Danes claimed Game 2, 30-21 as they outhit the Seawolves .233 to .021.

In the third game the Seawolves were in control early as they built a 7-2 lead on an Albany ball handling error. The Great Danes went on an 8-3 run to knot the game at 10-10 from a Kellam kill. The Seawolves continued on the attack and built a four point lead at 24-20 from a Jessica Graham kill. The Great Danes proceeded to close out the match on a 10-1 run to claim Game 3 and the match, 30-25.

Morgan Sweany paced the Stony Brook offense with 12 kills and 10 digs, Gulce Nazli Dikecligil added 11 kills and Kaitlyn Deutsch contributed 35 assists and three kills in the loss.

The Seawolves return to action tomorrow night when they take on Hartford in their final match of the regular season. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
