DURHAM, N.H. (AP) - Blagoj Janev scored 14 points, while Jamaal Caterina added nine and a game-high 11 rebounds Wednesday to lead New Hampshire to a 59-51 America East victory over Stony Brook.
UNH (10-15, 7-7) did not start out strong as Stony Brook (4-20, 2-11) took charge early and opened a 20-10 advantage. However, UNH took the lead at the half, 24-22, thanks to a 14-2 run.
The teams played to four ties until UNH took the lead for good on a jumper by Jermaine Anderson to make it 32-30 with 14:25 to play. UNH led by as many as six points on a dunk by Caterina with 9:04 to play, but a three-pointer by Bobby Santiago cut the lead to three.
UNH put together a final surge to open up a 51-41 lead with 4:20 to play, thanks to six points by Janev, including a three-pointer and a layup. UNH connected on six straight attempts in the final 1:59, four by Anderson, to hold on for the victory.
