Leah Getz led five Stony Brook players in double figures as the Seawolves used a strong second half to top Maine 84-70 in the two teams' regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena. The win set a new Division I program record for single-season victories as the Seawolves moved to 19-8 overall and 12-4 in America East action, while the Black Bears fall to 9-18 and 5-11.
Trailing 34-33 at the break, the Seawolves regained the lead for good at the 13:48 mark after a Kelly Watson free throw made it 45-44. Midway through the half, the Seawolves went on a 14-5 run that blew the game open, making it 71-59 with 3:08 to play. The Black Bears could get no closer than eight the rest of the way en route to the Seawolves 14-point victory.
Stony Brook shot a blistering 65.2 percent in the second half, connecting on 15-of-23 field goals, while outrebounding Maine by a 19-8 margin in the stanza.
Getz added a career-high six assists to go with her 19 points, while Dana Ferraro also added a career-best with 16 points. Farah Vasquez Jacobo and Sidney Orndorff each netted 13 points while Jessica Smith added 12 in the win.
Ashley Underwood led the Black Bears with a game-high 24 points.
The Seawolves will enter next week's America East Women's Basketball Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 Vermont in the quarterfinals on Friday.
