No. 1 New Hampshire Downs Football 62-7

Durham, N.H. - No. 1 New Hampshire used a powerful rushing attack to post a 62-7 win over Stony Brook Saturday afternoon at Cowell Stadium. The Wildcats rushed for 417 yards and six touchdowns to help them improve to 2-0 in 2006. The loss drops Stony Brook to 0-3.

After forcing Stony Brook to a three-and-out on the first possession of the game, UNH put together a five-play, 56-yard scoring drive that culminated with a Chad Kackert 5-yard touchdown run. On its next drive, Ricky Santos found Evan Loring on a 6-yard toss and after a blocked PAT, the hosts led 13-0. UNH extended the lead to 20-0 when Santos hit Aaron Brown for a 25-yard touchdown with 4:23 remaining the first quarter.

The Seawolves got on the board late in the first quarter on its longest scoring drive of the season. Stony Brook marched 79 yards on seven plays highlighted by Josh Dudash's pass to Mike Cosentino that Cosentino turned into a 47-yard gain down to the UNH 13. Two plays later, freshman Anthony Hamilton lined up at quarterback, took the snap from center and scampered 10 yards to the corner of the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown.

The Wildcats closed out the first half with 21 unanswered points to take a commanding 41-7 lead into the break.

Dudash went 10-for-17 for 112 yards while Steve Austin led the Seawolves on the ground with 67 yards on 10 carries.

The Seawolves return to action next week when they travel to take on UMass. Kick-off is 1 p.m.
