On a brisk, chilly day near New York's state capital, the Stony Brook men's soccer team fell to conference rival, Albany, 1-0. Stony Brook drops to 3-9-0, 0-2-0 in conference play. Albany is 5-4-2, 3-0-0.
In a physical America East matchup, Albany was called for four yellow cards on the afternoon but managed to score when it counted. Yan Gbolo gave the Great Danes the lead when his penalty kick in the 29th minute went past goalkeeper Rich Skoblicki.
The Seawolves received three cards on the day all of which came late in second half. Yahaya Musa and Mahamadou Simpara received yellow cards and Zach Norwood was called for a red card.
Stony Brook had eight shots on Saturday and Albany had 13. Skoblicki finished with four saves in his second start this season.
The Seawolves return to Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium when they play UMBC on Wednesday, October 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
