The Stony Brook volleyball team (5-4) dropped a pair of games on Day 1 of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational. The Seawolves took on Siena in their first match, falling 3-0 (30-27, 30-21, 31-29). In the nightcap, Stony Brook took on No. 17 Ohio, losing 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-28). Morgan Sweany paced the Stony Brook offense, rattling off 25 kills on the day.
In the morning match, Stony Brook took on Siena, falling 3-0. Morgan Sweany (18) and Gulce Nazli Dikecligil (10) each posted double-digit kills in the loss. Jessica Graham added six kills and two service aces off of the bench. Despite hitting .208 as a team the Seawolves dropped their home opener.
In the Seawolves second match they took on the 17th ranked Ohio Bobcats. The Bobcats took control early, winning the first two games 30-21 and 30-20. In Game 3, after a Graham kill, the Seawolves found themselves within one at 28-29. On the ensuing point, Ohio claimed the 30-28 win when the referee called Stony Brook for a ball handling error.
Amy Oleksiej hit .238 with nine kills, Dikecligil added nine kills and Kaitlyn Deustch added 32 assists and 10 digs in the loss.
The Seawolves return to action tomorrow morning on the final day of the Holiday Inn Express Invitational when they take on Yale at 11:00 a.m. The tournament will continue with No. 17 Ohio versus Yale at 3:00 p.m. and will conclude when Stony Brook takes on Maryland at 5:00 p.m.
