Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook women's volleyball team finished second in the America East Conference Tournament after losing to the University of Albany 3-1 (30-23, 30-24, 27-30, 30-26) at the Stony Brook University Arena, Sunday afternoon.
The Seawolves fell behind early, dropping the first two games of the match, by a combined 13 points.
However, behind the seven kills of senior Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) and 15 assists of senior Kaitlyn Deutsch (St. Louis, Mo.) the Seawolves rebounded in game three, winning, 30-27.
But the Great Danes' balanced attack was just too much for the Seawolves. Albany received double-digit kills from senior Ashley Crenshaw (11), sophomore Valerie Sourbeer (10), freshman Amanda Cowdrey (16) and junior Kamisha Kellam (18).
With the victory, the University of Albany improves to 21-9 on the season and receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Stony Brook finishes the season with a 24-8 record and will be vying for an at-large bid.
The selection for the tournament will take place Sunday, November 25 at 8 pm and will be aired on ESPNU.
