Men's Swimming Splits Against Lafayette and Binghamton

Easton, Penn. - The Stony Brook men's swimming and diving team topped Lafayette College, 83-57, but lost to Binghamton University, 75-65, at Ruef Natatorium Wednesday night. On the women's side, Stony Brook lost to Lafayette College, 107-33, and dropped their meet against Binghamton, 81-59.

Junior Julian Acevedo (Long Island City, N.Y.) set a new team-record during the men's 3 meter dive, recording a score of 355.05. He also won the 1 meter dive with a score of 316.25.

Junior Rafael Labour, Jr. (New York City, N.Y.) and freshman Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) also won two events each. Labour crossed first in the 100 yard backstroke (52.82) and 200 yard backstroke (1:56.50) while Ochmanski earned first place points for the men's team in the 1,000 yard freestyle (9:39.69) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:54.17).

Other Stony Brook swimmers earning first place points for the men's team were: freshman Eric Gaffey in the 100 yard freestyle (48.06) and the 400 yard freestyle relay team (3:12.73).

The women's team stayed competitive throughout, and dominated the 200 yard breaststroke, with freshman Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) finishing first (2:33.14) and sophomore Liav Cohen (Reut Modi'in, Israel) touching right behind her for second (2:34.60).

The women's team is now 2-8 on the season while the men stay even at 5-5 on the year. Both squads will be in action next on January 26th, when Stony Brook hosts it's final home meet of the year against Fairfield.
