Stony Brook University's swimming & diving teams had a strong showing Friday night against Army and Vermont. The men's team lost to Army, 161-120, while the women's team lost to Army 71-69 and 94-46. The Seawolves did take first in five different events including three by freshman Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio).
Heuser started her Stony Brook swimming career by touching first in the 100-yard (53.34), 500-yard (5:08.23) and 1,000-yard (10:25.15) freestyle races. Sophomore Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) also had first-place finish for Stony Brook, taking the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.74). She also touched third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.92) while fellow sophomore Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke.
Senior Jon Sigurosson (Reykjavik, Iceland) had the top finish for the men's team, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.87). A trio of freshman had impressive performances for the men with Zachery Good taking second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:13.31), Sean Conway touching second in both the 50(22.56) and 100-yard freestyle (49.03), and Mark Anderson taking second in both the 100 (56.94) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.25). \
The Seawolves next meet will be next Saturday in Storrs, Connecticut when they take on the University of Connecticut and Seton Hall.
