Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams finished day one of the America East Championships in fifth place after 12 events. The Seawolves' top performer was men's diver junior Julian Acevedo (Long Island City, N.Y.) who finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 308.60.
Stony Brook's next best finish came from the men's 200-yard medley relay team of junior Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior Michael MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.), senior Alexei Smirnov (Central Valley, N.Y.) and senior Alexander Kissel (Amityville, N.Y.), who finished third overall (1:34.99). The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Eric Gaffey (Bohemia, N.Y.), senior Dan Piastuck (Holbrook, N.Y.), senior Jonathan Eldor (Givat Elah, Israel) and freshman Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) also swam well, finishing fourth (7:01.91).
On the women's side, it was the 800-yard freestyle relay team of senior Courtney Teague (Colorado Springs, Colo.), freshman Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada), sophomore Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta), and freshman Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia) with the top finish, claiming sixth-place with a time of 7:55.46. The women's 200-yard medley relay team of junior Lucy Liu (Bronx, N.Y.), freshman Anastasia Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia), sophomore Anjelica D'Esposito (Holtsville, N.Y.) and senior Nyisha Green-Washington (Highland Mills, N.Y.) touched seventh (1:50.22).
As a team, the Seawolves finished the day with 134 points and are just eight points away from fourth-place University of Maine. The men's team currently ranks fourth, while the women will start tomorrow's competition in seventh.
