Men's Tennis Rolls Past Marist, 6-1

Feb. 24, 2008

Hanover, N.H. - Stony Brook's men's tennis team had little difficulty picking up its second consecutive win of the spring season on Sunday as it rolled past Marist, 6-1, in a match played at Dartmouth. Junior Youssef Fassi-Fehri (Fes, Morocco) was solid in his singles win, dropping just one game while also being part of the Seawolves winning No. 1 doubles team.

Stony Brook (2-1) set the tone of the match early by winning all three doubles matches. The Seawolves won both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches by 8-3 scores before Fassi-Fehri and his partner, freshman Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary), completed the sweep with an 8-5 win.

Fassi-Fehri picked up his second win of the day when he cruised past Nicolas Pisecky by a 6-0, 6-1 score at the No. 4 position. Three other Seawolves, freshman Artem Baradach (Minsk, Belarus) at No. 2, sophomore Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) at No. 5 and sophomore Alex Markovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 6, also recorded wins in straight sets to put the final result in the SBU column early.

Stony Brook's other victory came at the No. 3 position where sophomore Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Israel) overcame a first set loss to take a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Marcos Van Nordhiem.

Stony Brook will be back in action next Saturday, March 1 when it will be at Harvard for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match.
