Women's Basketball Falls To Hartford, 81-46

West Hartford, Conn. - Hartford's Danielle Hood had 20 of her game-high 28 points in the first half to lead the Hawks to an 81-46 win over the Stony Brook women's basketball team on Wednesday evening at Chase Arena. Hartford improves to 23-5, 13-2 while Stony Brook drops to 6-22, 1-14 in America East play.

"I'm extremely disappointed in our play tonight," head coach Michele Cherry said. "We ran into a tough Hartford team on its senior night. Danielle Hood was just tremendous for them in the first half."

Hartford opened up an early 8-2 lead helped by six points from Hood. She was the Hawks' offensive in early going scoring 10 of their 14 points. Sophomore Kairsten Nunn (Bowie, Md.) scored six straight points for the Seawolves, who trailed 14-12 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half. Hartford opened up a 23-16 lead aided by seven straight points from Hood. A Jamie McCabe three from the top of the key gave Hartford a 28-18 lead with 4:39 to go in the half.

Three consecutive three-pointers from MaryLynne Schaefer gave Hartford a 41-18 halftime lead. Nunn led the Seawolves with eight first-half points.

Nunn had a team-high 10 points to earn America East player of the game honors. Freshman Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) had six points, all in the second half.

Hood finished with 28 points to earn Hartford's conference player of the game honors. Schaefer had five threes for 15 points and Diana Delva had 11 points.
