Stony Brook University's Department of Athletics has announced that Antony Bonavita, Assistant Director of Athletics for Facility and Event Operations, has accepted a position with Spurs Sports and Entertainment as Assistant General Manager of the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, the San Antonio Spurs home facility.
Bonavita is currently responsible for coordinating the daily operations, maintenance, construction and renovation of Stony Brook's athletic facilities, including Stony Brook Arena, Pritchard Gymnasium and Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. He also oversees the event management team that is responsible for the coordination and implementation of both athletic and special events for the department.
A member of the Stony Brook athletics department since 1994, he began as an undergraduate marketing intern before moving into the facilities area as an Event Manager in 1995. From 1998-2003, he served as the Director of Events and Operations before being named Director of Facility and Event Operations in July of 2004 after serving a year in that role in an interim capacity.
Bonavita was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Facility and Event Operations in 2007.
In his new position with the Spurs, Bonavita will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the AT&T Center, including operations, maintenance, life safety, public safety, event preparations, staffing, communications and video production while assisting the general manager in the general operation of all departments. He will also be responsible for the planning and implementation of operating budgets, with additional work in coordinating capital projects.
Bonavita is a 1997 graduate of Stony Brook University with a degree in political science and is currently completing his Masters Degree in the SBU School of Professional Development. Bonavita is an active member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM), holds both a facility management certification and crowd manager's certification from that organization and was published twice in Facility Manager Magazine (July 2001 & April 2005).
He will leave his position with the Seawolves at the end of May.
