Swimming & Diving Splits With Lafayette

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's swimming & diving team upset Lafayette College, 160-137, Saturday afternoon in University Pool. The women's team was paced by four first-place finishes by freshman Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio). The men's team fell to the Leopards, 151-138.

Heuser placed first in three individual races, taking the 1,650, 500 and 200-yard freestyles. She was also a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team along with senior Lucy Liu (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta) and sophomore Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia).

The women's team was dominant in the breaststroke, sweeping the top three spots in both the 100 and 200-yard events. Sophomore Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) was the top finisher in both of those races, while junior Jessica Peters (Holyoke, Mass.) took second in the 100 and third in the 200 and junior Liav Cohen (Reut Modi'in, Israel) touched third in the 100 and second in the 200.

Also posting first-place finishes for the women's squad were sophomore Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada) in the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes and freshman Mallory Breen (Quispamsis, Canada) who won the 400-yard IM.

On the men's side, freshmen Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Ian Francis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) both posted three first-place finishes. Anderson took home both the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team along with seniors Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Michael MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.) and freshman Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.). Francis won the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes and the 400-yard IM.

MacDonald and Conway added individual first-place finishes, touching first in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, respectively.

Stony Brook's next meet is next Saturday against Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
