Swimming & Diving Cruise to Victory Over Bryant

Smithfield, R.I. - Stony Brook University's swimming & diving teams cruised to victory over Bryant on Saturday afternoon. The men's team won, 141-109, while the women swam to a 143-97 victory. Stony Brook was dominant in the freestyle events, sweeping the top-three spots in four different freestyle races.

The women's team opened the meet by taking the top-three places in the 400-yard medley relay, led by the first place team of senior Lucy Liu (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Jessica Peters (Holyoke, Mass.), freshman Stephanie Gross (Fairport, N.Y.) and sophomore Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia), who completed the race in 4:07.65. The Seawolves took the top-two spots in their race, with freshmen Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Ian Francis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Ben Parker (Austin, Texas) and Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) touching first (3:42.59).

Freshman Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) continued her impressive first-year campaign winning the 1,000 (11:14.89) and 50-yard freestyles (25.87). Sophomore Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) took first in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle (9:59.45) and 500-yard free (4:47.70).

Also touching first in freestyle races were sophomore Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada) in the women's 200 (2:01.07), junior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta) in the women's 100 (56.39), senior Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the men's 50 (22.59) and Conway in the men's 100 (48.74). Policht also took the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.18), while Liu and Anderson finished first in the women's and men's 100-yard backstrokes.

The Seawolves received two first-place finishes from Peters in the 100 (1:10.77) and 200-yard (2:29.37) breaststrokes and one each from Francis in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.28), Gross in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.75) and freshman Connor Murray (Hyde Park, N.Y.) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.37).

Stony Brook's next meet will be its final home meet of the season, hosting Binghamton next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
