Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Freshman Berian Gobeil (Montreal, Quebec) scored 10:44 into the first half and redshirt freshman Anthony Rogic (Boonton, N.Y.) made three saves in the Stony Brook men's soccer team's 1-0 victory over Albany on Saturday night. The win vaults the Seawolves into a tie for third place (six points) with Binghamton in the America East standings. Stony Brook is 3-9-2, 2-2-0 while Albany is 0-10-3, 0-3-1.
After a foul at midfield gave Stony Brook a free kick, senior Collin Geoghegan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) sent a perfect service into the box. Gobeil came in from the right side and headed the ball past Albany keeper Adrian Foncette for the score. The goal from Gobeil tied freshman Leonardo Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) for the team lead in goals with four while the assist gave Geoghegan seven career points.
Freshman Raphael Abreu (New York, N.Y.) almost made it 2-0 when he took a pass from Gobeil, but his shot from 15-yards out went high.
Albany was able to record just three shots on goal but nearly scored in the 71st minute. Bo Jelovac hit the post and Claudio Dantas' shot following the rebound was brilliantly saved by Rogic, who recorded a shutout for the second straight game.
In the final game of three straight matches at home, Stony Brook hosts Vermont on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm.
