Stony Brook, N.Y. - In its first dual match action of the season, the Stony Brook men's tennis squad took on a pair of opponents today at University Courts and the Seawolves came away with a pair of victories to show for their efforts. Stony Brook downed St. Peter's 5-0 in the morning before coming back in the afternoon to defeat Sacred Heart by the same 5-0 score. Junior Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) won a pair of singles matches to help the Seawolves to the wins.

In the morning match five singles matches were contested between the Seawolves and the Peacocks. Rummel dropped only one game in the No. 2 position, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tony Wilcox. In the No. 1 position senior Halvar Dil (Amersfort, Netherlands) was equally impressive in his win over Jay Gramatica in a 6-2, 6-0 win. Sophomore Max Sztabholz (Paris, France) dropped just two games in his match as well, a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 position. Senior Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Israel) and freshman Roope Kailaheimo (Helsinki, Finland) also won in straight sets to complete the Seawolves sweep.

Against Sacred Heart the match consisted of one doubles and four singles contests, with the result another Stony Brook sweep. Moving up to No. 1, Rummel scored a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win while Kailaheimo took a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Jake Miller at No. 4. In the doubles match Dil teamed with sophomore Mitch Wong (Tampa, Fla.) to take a 6-2, 6-2 win. Shvartz and senior Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) picked up the other singles wins for the Seawolves.

Stony Brook will be back in action at home next weekend when it hosts the Stony Brook Invitational from Oct. 9-11.
