Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams competed at Fordham on Wednesday night. The men's team lost, 148-81, while the women's team fell, 163-74. Freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, Serbia) picked up two individual victories for the men's team and freshman Jane Kim (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) won the 200-yard breaststroke on the women's side.
Kopas won the 200-yard IM, touching first in 1:56.78. Junior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) finished second behind Kopas, posting a time of 1:59.10. Kopas easily won the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.53), finishing five seconds ahead of second-place finisher Robert Gitman.
Ochmanski won the 500-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 4:49.37.
Sophomore Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) and junior Matthew McCort (Commack, N.Y.) posted second place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.93) and 200-yard butterfly (2:00.32), respectively.
On the women's side, Kim won the 200 breast in 2:28.05, finishing ahead of junior Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) and senior Jessica Peters (2:29.18). Freshman Julie Policht (Toronto, Ontario) recorded a top-three finish in the 500-yard freestyle, touching second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.61. Kiryushkina finished third in the 200-yard IM, coming in at 2:17.13.
Both the men's and women's 400-yard freestyle relay were swept by the Seawolves, who are back in action against Boston University on December 5. The first event is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
