Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams competed at Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The men's team lost, 193-98, and the women's squad fell, 191-109. Freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, Serbia) won two events for the Seawolves, finishing first in the 100 and 200 back. Sophomores Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) and Cliff Gonzalez (White Plains, N.Y.) also picked up individual victories for the men's team. On the women's side, juniors Adrienne Policht (Toronto, Ontario) and Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) and freshman Julie Policht (Toronto, Ontario) each picked up first-place points.
Kopas easily won the 100 back in 49.29, almost three seconds ahead of the Terriers' Justin Gilmartin. He also dominated the 200 back, finishing just under six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Including the 200-yard freestyle relay, Conway posted three top-three finishes on Saturday. Prior to being edged in the 200 free by less than a second, he won the 100 free with a time of 46.84. Gonzalez and freshman Hajime Ichikawa (Scarsdale, N.Y.) placed one and two in the 100 breast, recording times of 1:01.50 and 1:02.35, respectively.
Three other swimmers recorded second-place finishes led by junior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland), who posted second-place times in the 500 and 1,000 free.
Policht's 200 back time of 2:11.97 was the best she's recorded this season, breaking a 2:13.56 mark set at Fordham. Along with Kiryushkina's first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, she finished second in the 200-yard IM and third in the 200 breast.
Heuser, who was part of the Seawolves' 200-yard freestyle relay victory, took home first-place points in the 200-yard free. She edged freshman Andjelija Sreckovic (Jagodina, Serbia), who placed second just four hundredths of a second slower.
Policht joined her sister, breaking her 200 fly time in 2:08.87. She nearly won the 100 fly, but settled for a third-place finish.
Freshman Renee Rosenkranz (Dover Plains, N.Y.) also had a strong showing on Saturday, finishing second in the 50 and 100 free.
Both squads are on a short break, returning to the University Pool for a meet against St. Francis (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
