Swimming & Diving Sweeps St. Francis (N.Y.)

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams combined to win 15 events as the Seawolves swept St. Francis (N.Y.) on Tuesday afternoon at University Pool. The women's team won, 130-115, and the men's squad came out on top, 120-110. Freshman Andjelija Sreckovic (Jagodina, Serbia) won the 200-yard freestyle for her first individual win of the season. Junior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) had two individual victories for the men's team.

Both squads combined to take first-place honors in the first 12 events. Freshman Julie Policht (Toronto, Ontario) posted the Seawolves second-best time of the year in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:57.28). Two events later, junior Adrienne Policht (Toronto, Ontario) recorded her best time of the season in the 200-yard freestyle, touching in 1:59.51. Ochmanski, sophomore Zackery Good (Columbus, Ind.) and freshman Hajime Ichikawa (Eastchester, N.Y.) swept the 200 free as each swimmer recorded season-best times. The men's team also swept the 100-yard breastroke.

Also posting top season times were senior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta), who swam a 2:14.36 in the 200 back, Ochmanski (47.74) and freshman Kate Harney (Flemington, N.J.) (57.64) in the 100 free, senior Tracey Klicpera (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (26.48) in the 50 free, and freshmen David White (Flemington, N.J.) (1:03.82) and Steven Nelson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (1:06.39) and sophomore Daniel Ortiz (Brentwood, N.Y.) in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Earlier in the day, freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, Serbia) was named America East Male Performer of the Week after breaking school records in the 100 and 200 back.

Both of Stony Brook's teams travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. for their intersession training trip starting on January 4. The next dual meet is at Lafayette on January 16, 2010.
