Stony Brook's men's tennis team continued its spring season this afternoon, picking up its second win of the spring season with a 5-2 victory at Army. The Seawolves won four of the six singles matches to claim the victory, including win by junior Halvar Dil (Amersfort, Netherlands).
Stony Brook took two of the three doubles matches at the start of the match to capture the first point of the afternoon. Dil teamed with sophomore Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) to win 8-4 at the No. 1 position, while the all freshman team of Bertrand Marcos (Paris, France) and Mitch Wong (Tampa, Fla.) won 8-5 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
Playing at No. 2 singles, Dil dropped only four games in his straight sets win over Tripp Johnson in a 6-1, 6-3 decision. Wong and junior Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) each won by identical 6-2, 6-3 scores. Wong won at No. 6 over Johnny Lucero while Epstein took his win over Jordan Girdley at the No. 3 position.
Marcos clinched the match for Stony Brook in his contest at No. 5 singles. After holding off Donald Van Velzer 7-5 in the first set, Marcos claimed the second set by a 6-4 score to secure the match for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook will be back in action tomorrow, taking on Connecticut at West Point at Noon.
