Stony Brook, N.Y. -
After not playing for two weeks Stony Brook’s men’s tennis team returned to the courts today, hosting St. John’s in the first home outing of the spring for the Seawolves. It was the Red Storm that held the upper hand as they won the first five points to take a 5-2 victory. Junior Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) picked up singles wins for Stony Brook.
St. John’s swept through the doubles play to earn the first point of the day. The closest match came at No. 3 doubles where the Stony Brook team of senior Youssef Fassi-Fehri (Fes, Morocco) and freshman Mitch Wong (Tampa, Fla.) dropped an 8-4 decision.
St. John’s made short work of the match in singles, winning the first four matches that were decided to earn enough points for the win. Stony Brook finally got on the board when Rummel defeated Gustavo Loza by a 6-3, 6-4 score at the second singles position. At No. 3 it was Epstein that scored a come-from-behind win for the Seawolves. After dropping the first set to Milo Hauk, he stormed back to take the next two, claiming a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Stony Brook will play again this weekend at home when it will take on Sacred Heart on Sunday, March 29 at noon.
