Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Senior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta), junior Sean Clarke (Bellmore, N.Y.) and junior Nathan Fleshman (Monroe, Mich.) have been named swimming and diving captains for the 2009-10 season, head coach Dave Alexander announced on Thursday.
Sayles, one of the squad's strongest swimmers in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle and a member of the relay team, leads a squad that finished fifth at the America East Championships. Last year, she was a member of the record-breaking 400-medley relay (3:53.18), 200-free relay (1:35.93), 400-free relay (3:30.46) and 800-free relay (7:35.85) teams.
Clarke excelled in all of the freestyle events last year, finishing in the top-20 in five races at the America East Championships. Fleshman swam especially well in the long distance freestyle events, placing ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Both squads open the season at Army on October 9, where the Seawolves will face the Black Knights, Boston College and Vermont in a quad meet.
