Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams swept Bryant on Saturday in the final home meet of the season. Sophomore Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) led the women's team with two individual victories as they won, 148-108. Junior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland), sophomore Cliff Gonzalez (White Plains, N.Y.) and freshman Ivan Kopas (Kikinda, Serbia) each had two victories in the men's team's 157-94 victory. The Seawolves capped a perfect 3-0 year at home with today's wins.
Heuser finished first in the 200 (1:59.36) and 500-yard freestyle (5:14.18) and nearly won the 50 free, coming in second just 29 tenths of a second behind. Her 500 free time is the top women's time for the Seawolves this year and her best by more than two seconds as well.
Along with winning the 1000 free (11:05.25), freshman Julie Policht (Toronto, Ontario) was part of SBU's first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Mallory Breen (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.56) in leading a sweep in the event. Sophomore Stephanie Gross (Fairport, N.Y.) and freshman MaryKate Morcerf (Babylon, N.Y.) came in second and third, respectively.
Ochmanski won the 200 (1:45.21) and 1000 free (10:05.55) to give Stony Brook wins in the first two freestyle events. Gonzalez nearly set personal bests in the 100 fly (54.75) and 100 breast (1:02.90), but still settled for first-place points. Kopas dominated the backstroke events, once again, winning each event by more than five seconds.
Sophomores Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.), Zackery Good (Columbus, Ind.) and Daniel Kim (Douglaston, N.Y.) and freshman Hajime Ichikawa (Scarsdale, N.Y.) also picked up wins for the men's team.
Stony Brook completes the 2009-10 regular season at America East rival Binghamton on Saturday, February 6. Event one is scheduled for 2 pm.
