The Stony Brook men's soccer team received second-half goals from sophomores Leonardo Fernandes and Raphael Abreu to knock off Albany 2-0 Saturday in Albany, N.Y. Sophomore keeper Stefan Manz made five saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

Stony Brook rebounds from last week's 2-1 loss to Boston University to earn its first conference victory of the season. Overall, the Seawolves improve to 7-5-1, 1-1-0 in America East. Stony Brook came into the match ranked No. 3 in this week's BigAppleSoccer.com top 10 poll. Albany drops to 4-7-0 overall, 0-2-0 in conference play.

In the first half, Albany had the most chances to score, outshooting Stony Brook 8-4, including four shots on net. However, Manz made all four saves to keep the game scoreless.

In the second half, Fernandes went on the offensive, first with a high shot in the 59th minute. He regained possession and was fouled in the 61st minute to earn a free kick. His first shot was blocked, but the rebound came right back to him, and he blasted a goal to the far right corner of the net to put the Seawolves on top 1-0. It was Fernandes' team-leading sixth goal of the season and remains in the conference's top-five in scoring.

Stony Brook then put the game away with an 83rd minute goal by Abreu. He took a streaking pass from Craig Hanton and put the ball past keeper Adrian Foncette in the near post corner. It was Abreu's third goal of the season, and Hanton's first helper of the year.

Manz's fourth clean sheet of the year ties him with New Hampshire's Colin O'Donnell for first in America East. He also ranks second in the league in saves.

Stony Brook will return to action Wednesday against New Hampshire at LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m.
