Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Taylor Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J.) of the Stony Brook women's swimming team and senior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) of the men's team were honored as the America East Swimmers of the Week on Tuesday.
Crosby garnered 113 total points on the weekend, finishing as the second-highest scoring female athlete at the ECAC Open as the Seawolves took first place out of 13 teams in East Meadow, N.Y. The junior placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.36) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.89) on Saturday, before placing fourth in the 400 IM in 4:39.71, a Seawolves season record. Crosby finished the weekend by taking first in the 200 IM on Sunday with an ECAC Open record time of 2:10.10. The mark is also the fastest for any Stony Brook women's swimmer this season.
Ochmanski was Stony Brook's highest-scoring male competitor as he registered 81 points over the weekend to help the Seawolves place fourth out of 15 teams. The senior finished first in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 45.66, before taking first again in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:40.51, smashing the ECAC Open record by nearly three seconds in the event. Ochmanski was also a key contributor in the Seawolves' relay success as he helped the 800 free relay team to a third-place finish and the 400 free relay quartet to a first-place standing in 3:05.84, another ECAC Open record.
Ochmanski is the first Seawolf to be named America East Male Swimmer of the Week since Ivan Kopas garnered the award on Dec. 8, 2009. Crosby is the first Stony Brook athlete to be named Female Swimmer of the Week since Darcy Heuser took home the accolade on Feb. 3, 2009.
Stony Brook returns to action on Jan. 19 when it hosts Lafayette at 3 p.m.
