Stony Brook University's men's tennis team defeated Sacred Heart University, 7-0, in non-conference action at University Courts on Saturday afternoon. It was the first of four straight home matches for the Seawolves, who improve to 12-4 with the victory.
Stony Brook opened the match by winning the doubles point. Palash Tiwari and Mitch Wong (Tampa, Fla.) won 8-6 at No. 2 while senior Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior Halvar Dil (Amersfort, Netherlands) won at No. 1, 8-4.
The Seawolves then dominated in singles, dropping just one set. Junior Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 while Epstein won 10-3 in super tie-breaker at No. 2.
Dil won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 while Wong and senior Ilan Shvartz (Haifa, Isreal) each dropped just three games on their way to victories at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. At No. 6, Sophomore Max Sztabholz (Paris, France) won the first set 6-3, before winning 7-5 in a tiebreak.
The men return to action on Sunday, hosting New Jersey Tech at 12 p.m.
