Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook swimming and diving teams each swam to victories against Lafayette on Wednesday at University Pool as the men's squad prevailed 150-126 and the women's team won 179-116. The women's team earned first-place finishes in 13 of 16 events, while the men's squad took home first place in nine of 16 events.

The Seawolves started the competition on a high-note as freshman Serra Czapla (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned first place in the one-meter dive with a score of 190.00. The women's team then carried the day in the 200 medley relay, before the men followed suit in the same event.

In the 1,000 freestyle, junior Daniel Kim (Douglaston, N.Y.) took home top honors with a time of 10:17.61. Fellow junior Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) then continued the Seawolves' run of success with a win in the 200 free (1:58.02), touching just ahead of sophomore Andjelija Sreckovic (Jagodina, Serbia) in second and senior Adrienne Policht (Toronto, Ontario) in third. Stony Brook was also successful in the men's 200 free, in which senior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) carried the day with a time of 1:48.85.

Freshman Renee Deschenes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) continued a strong first season with the Seawolves as she raced to a win in the 100 backstroke (59.19), while fellow freshman Veronica Reid (Duncan, British Columbia) enjoyed similar success with a win in the 100 breaststroke.

The 200 butterfly also fell the Seawolves' way as senior Matthew McCort (Commack, N.Y.) touched first in 2:02.64. Juniors Kelsey Stranc (Chicago, Ill.) and Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.) then carried the day with back-to-back victories in the 50 free, before Czapla earned another win on the diving board with a score of 186.35 in the three-meter competition.

The 100 free competition was also taken over by Stony Brook swimmers as freshman Allison Zelnick (Troy, Ohio) won on the women's side and Conway took home honors on the men's side. Deschenes then pocketed another first-place finish, this time in the 200 backstroke, as she coasted to victory in 2:07.77.

In the 200 breaststroke, junior Taylor Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J) took home first place and sophomore Hajime Ichikawa followed suit with a win in 2:19.71. The women's team was not finished as Heuser swam to victory in the 500 free (5:12.74) and junior Stephanie Gross (Fairport, N.Y.) paced three Seawolves in the top three in the 100 fly. The men also continued their success to the end of the day as freshman Derek Woodhead (Stony Brook, N.Y.) touched first in the 100 fly and the 200 free relay team tacked on another win for good measure in 1:30.74.

The Seawolves return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Bryant. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
