Swimming and diving knocks off Bryant

Smithfield, R.I. - The Stony Brook swimming and diving teams prevailed for the second straight dual meet on Saturday, downing Bryant by a 143-119 margin on the men's side and a 178-84 scoreline on the women's side. 

Freshman Renee Deschenes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) enjoyed a dominant day in the pool, finishing first in three individual events. Deschenes' first victory came in the 1000 free, where the freshman coasted to victory in 10:49.38. Deschenes then reeled in a win in the 100 backstroke (57.52), before taking first in the 200 backstroke (2:04.71) as well.

On the men's side, senior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) was equally effective as he earned wins in the 200 free (1:44.59) and the 500 free (4:53.56), in addition to helping the 200 free relay team secure first place in 1:27.87. Junior Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) also had a big afternoon after placing first in the 100 breaststroke and helping both the 200 medley and free relay teams to victories as well.

Freshman Veronica Reid (Duncan, British Columbia) and junior Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) also earned several impressive finishes on the day. Both swimmers combined to help the 200 medley relay team earn a victory, before Reid went on to win the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Heuser later went on to win the 500 free and helped the 200 free medley team to a first-place finish in 1:39.22. Freshman Allison Zelnick also turned in a solid overall performance with a win in the 50 free, while helping the 200 free relay team to a win.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, January 29 when they host Binghamton at University Pool at 1 p.m.
