Stony Brook's women's volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-13) loss to the Albany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Stony Brook falls to 12-11 overall and 5-4 in the America East.
Sophomore Evann Slaughter (Clinton, Md.) led the Seawolves with seven kills while senior Alicia Nelson (Apple Valley, N.Y.) chipped in with six. Senior Masa Balandzic (Pljevla, Montenegro) led Stony Brook with 10 digs.
The opening set was close early with SBU trailing 11-9 following a kill from Slaughter. SBU still trailed just 20-16 following another kill from Slaughter but the Great Danes scored five of the final six points to take the set.
Stony Brook again hung tough in the second set as SBU trailed 14-13 after a kill from sophomore Greta Strenger (Woodbury, Minn.). But Albany then ran off six straight points and the Seawolves got no closer than six the rest of the way.
Albany jumped to a 12-4 lead in the final set and never looked back on their way to a 12-point victory to complete the sweep. The Great Danes hit .565 in the third set and .377 for the match.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday, hosting Hartford at Pritchard Gymnasium. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
