Boyds, Md. - The Stony Brook swimming and diving teams completed the 2011 America East Championship on Sunday and placed fifth in the men's competition with 323 points and sixth in the women's competition with 300 points. Host UMBC swept the meet to win its 8th consecutive men's title and halt Boston University's two-year reign on the women's side.

After breaking a pair of school records on Saturday in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, freshman Renee Deschenes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) smashed the program mark in the 200 backstroke by five seconds to place second in 1:59.00.

Junior Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) continued a stellar America East Championship by placing sixth in the 100 freestyle (52.08), while junior Andjelija Sreckovic (Jagodina, Serbia) took 11th in 52.64. Senior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) followed suit with a strong performance in the men's 100 free by touching fifth in 45.69, and was joined in the top-10 by junior Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.), who took ninth in 46.39.

Sophomore Hajime Ichikawa (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and freshman Serra Czapla (Glastonbury, Conn.) added ninth-place finishes in the 200 breaststroke and one-meter diving competitions, respectively. Ichikawa touched in 2:10.89, while Czapla recorded a score of 201.05 on the diving board.

In the final event of the America East Championship, the 400 free relay, the women's team of Deschenes, Sreckovic, Heuser and freshman Allison Zelnick (Troy, Ohio) took fifth in 3:29.93, falling only seven-tenths of a second shy of breaking a school record. The men's 400 free relay quartet of Ochmanski, Conway, junior Ed McIntyre (Laurel, N.Y.) and senior Chris Olwell (Floral Park, N.Y.) tied a school record with a time of 3:03.95 to place fourth.

All told, the Seawolves set six new program records over the weekend on the women's side in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke.
