Cambridge, Mass. - Three members of the Stony Brook swimming and diving squad were named to the America East All-Academic Team on Wednesday, as announced by the conference office. Juniors Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) and Zackery Good (Columbus, Ind.) and senior Anastasia Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) were honored on the 20-member squad.
Heuser, a studio art major, maintains a 3.35 GPA in the classroom. In the pool, the junior posted five team-best times this season, including three stellar performances in the 50 free (23.91), 100 free (52.08) and 200 free at the 2011 America East Championship. Heuser was also a vital member of several relay teams, helping the 200 free relay team to a season-best time at the conference championship, while helping the 400 free relay and 400 medley relay squads to program records at the meet.
An All-Academic selection in 2010 as well, Good (3.35 GPA) is majoring in marine science. Good placed 10th overall in the 200 backstroke at the America East Championship with a season-best time of 1:44.43. The junior has earned Dean's List distinction in the Fall of 2008, the Fall of 2009 and the Fall of 2010.
Kiryushkina, who owns a 3.92 GPA in business management and theater arts, has the highest GPA on the women's All-Academic Team. A breaststroke specialist, Kiryushkina posted a season-best time in the 200 breast at the ECAC Open with a mark of 2:23.23. The senior was previously named to the America East All-Academic squad in 2009.
All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time or are made up of 10 student-athletes for individual sports. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
