Game Two Box Score
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team dropped a pair of games to conference foe Boston University on Saturday at University Field, falling in game one by a 10-1 margin and dropping game two by a 13-2 count.
The Terriers' offense pounded out four home runs on the day, including a grand slam in each game by redshirt-freshman Chelsea Kehr, to improve to 14-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Seawolves fell to 8-11 and 0-2 in America East action.
In the first game, the Seawolves were given a boost from junior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.), who went 2-for-3 at the plate and accounted for the team's lone RBI when she singled home junior Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.) in the third. The RBI was Hawley's first in a Stony Brook uniform.
Boston University's offense proved too to be much in the end, however, as it produced three runs in the third, six in the fourth and one in the fifth to bring the game to an abrupt close after five innings. Kehr went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI, while freshman Amy Ekart added a 2-for-4 day with a pair of RBI.
The second game followed the same script as BU's bats got hot early and never cooled down. The Terriers scored four unearned runs in the first, and then added seven in the third to blow the game open. Kehr again recorded four RBI, while freshman Holli Floetker, who earned the victory in game one as the pitcher, chipped in five RBI.
The Seawolves produced three hits (all singles) in game two and scored a run in both the first and second innings. Hawley crossed the plate in the first when junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) grounded to the shortstop and reached on a fielding error. Stony Brook added its run in the second on a Samantha Rossi (Marlton, N.J.) RBI single that scored freshman Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.).
Stony Brook will look to bounce back on Sunday when it wraps up the three-game series with Boston University at 12 p.m. from University Field.
