Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team fell in its third and final game of the weekend against America East rival Boston University, dropping a 9-0 decision on Sunday at University Field.
Riding the momentum from Saturday, Boston University's offense continued its weekend assault with 11 hits, five of the extra-base variety, and nine runs. The Terriers scored their first five runs of the game in two-out situations, including back-to-back home runs from Caitlin Rentler and Melanie Delgado in the second inning.
At the plate, the Seawolves struggled to string together a rally against BU pitcher Erin Schuppert (seven strikeouts). Junior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.), freshman Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) and sophomore Samantha Rossi (Marlton, N.J.) accounted for the Seawolves' three hits, which were all singles.
The defeat drops Stony Brook's record to 8-12 and 0-3 in conference, while BU improves to 15-8 overall and 3-0 in America East action.
The Seawolves will attempt to rebound on Wednesday when they host a doubleheader with Sacred Heart starting at 2:30 p.m.
