April 16, 2011

West Hartford, Conn. - Stony Brook University's men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at Hall High School. The Seawolves defeated Hartford, 6-0, but fell to Binghamton by the same score.

Stony Brook's record now stands at 8-9. Both matches were singles only due to impending rain.

SBU did not drop a set in dominating Hartford. Freshman Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and sophomore Roope Kailaheimo (Helsinki, Finland) won by the same scored at No. 2.

Junior Mehmet Duru (Istandbul, Turkey) won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 position. No other Stony Brook player dropped more than three games.

But Stony Brook struggled against Binghamton, dropping all six matches in straight sets. Senior Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) lost 7-5 in the first set at No. 2 before falling 6-2 in the second set.

The Seawolves return to action on Monday, hosting St. John's at University Courts.
