The Stony Brook men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season Friday night, knocking off UConn, 7-0 at West Point's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
SBU opened the match by earning wins in two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Francis Bertrand (Repentigny, Quebec) won 8-3 at the No. 1 position and freshman Stefan Ilic (Forest Hills, N.Y.0) won 8-4 at No. 3.
The Seawolves then swept the singles matches led by Fomin, who defeated Scott Warden in three sets at No. 1 singles. Bertrand and senior Roope Kailaheimo (Helsinki, Finland) then won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Senior Max Sztabholz (Paris, France) and junior Robert Forai (Novi Sad, Serbia) each dropped just five games on the way to easy victories at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles.
