Stony Brook falls at Hofstra, 71-66

Hempstead, N.Y.  - Senior Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.) scored 22 points and hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Stony Brook women's basketball team (1-1) fell at Hofstra 71-66 on Tuesday night. 

McCombs Reaction

"We showed a lot of fight tonight battling back from a 13-point deficit to cut it to two points in the final minute," said head coach Caroline McCombs. "We will learn from this loss and get ready for another test on the road Friday."

Turning Point

The Seawolves trailed 57-48 entering the fourth quarter but battled back to make it a two-point game after junior Christa Scognamiglio's (Orangeburg, N.Y.) steal and layup with 56 seconds remaining. However, Hofstra's Kelly Loftus, who scored a game-high 26 points, knocked down her sixth three-pointer of the game to put the Pride up five with 36 seconds left. 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Seawolves were aggressive attacking the basket, making their way to the charity stripe for 27 attempts. 
  • The Pride knocked down 8-of-25 three-point tries (32.0%) compared to 2-for-9 from Stony Brook (22.2%). 
  • Hofstra finished with an 38-36 edge on the glass.

Notes
  • Snow entered the season with two career double-doubles, but has notched two in her first two games this season. She was a workhorse, logging 40 minutes of action.
  • Freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) posted career high's of 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss. 
  • Junior Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points and four assists.

Stony Brook travels to Saint Peter's on Friday, Nov. 20 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Seawolves defeated the Peacocks 56-40 last season at IFCU Arena.
