Seawolves go 1-2 at Yale 4-Way Invitational

March 9, 2015

New Haven, Conn. - The men's tennis team posted a 1-2 record at the Yale Four-Way Invitational over the weekend, falling to Yale and Fairleigh Dickinson on the opening day before responding with a win over Marist on Sunday.

Despite going 0-2 on Saturday, the Seawolves received a nice contribution from sophomore Alexandre Felisa (Boulogne, France), who went a perfect 2-for-2 in his singles matches.

The Seawolves dropped their opening match of the weekend to Yale 6-1. Felisa was the only Seawolf to prevail victorious, downing Daniel Faierman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 out of the No. 3 singles position.

Sophomore Raphael Termat (Nice, France) and sophomore Tyler Hoffman (Sayville, N.Y.) won the first set in their matches before dropping the next two.

In its next match, Stony Brook was clipped by the Knights 4-3. The Seawolves earned the extra doubles point thanks to wins from the tandems of Felisa and junior Jose Morales (Bradenton, Fla.) and Termat and sophomore Kenzo Kauffmann (La Croix, Switzerland).

Unfortunately, the Knights won four of the six singles matches to edge out the Seawolves. Felisa (6-4, 6-1) and Morales (6-3, 6-2) won their matches from the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Hoffman and Kauffman took their matches to three sets, before narrowly falling in tight third sets.

Stony Brook came out victorious on Sunday, edging Marist 5-4. Each team went 3-3 in their singles matches, but the Seawolves bested the Red Foxes 2-1 in the doubles to earn the victory. Morales/Felisa (6-2) and Kauffmann/Termat (6-4) were the doubles teams to come out on top for Stony Brook. Termat (6-4, 6-2), Morales (6-3, 6-4) and Kauffman (6-3, 6-2) all won their singles matches. Morales joined Felisa with a 2-1 singles record for the weekend, while the two also teamed up to go 2-1 in doubles.

The Seawolves will be back in action on Wed., Mar. 25 when they take on St. John's in Flushing, N.Y. at 12 p.m.
