Broadcast veteran Josh Caray named the Voice of the Seawolves

Aug. 4, 2015

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook Athletics is proud to announce that Josh Caray will join the broadcast team as the play-by-play “Voice of the Seawolves” for football and men’s basketball.

Caray is no stranger to being behind the microphone, having spent time as a host, anchor or announcer since 2004 when he was a part of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network. He served two years as a play-by-play announcer for football and basketball on the college level with Birmingham Southern and worked three years as the studio host for Tulane’s and UNLV‘s broadcasts on IMG sports.

"I am excited and blessed to be called the ‘Voice of the Seawolves,’” Caray said. “The one thing that attracted me most to this opportunity is the possibility that exists for Stony Brook Athletics over the next few years. When you think of 'rising stars' in terms of college athletic departments...Stony Brook is one. I want to thank Shawn Heilbron and the athletic department for their confidence in me. I also look forward to working with the coaches and staff to bring the fans closer to the Seawolves through our football and basketball broadcasts."

Most recently, Caray, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was the evening news anchor for KAVU-TV in Victoria, Texas.

“In adding Josh to our broadcast team, we are getting a true professional who will help take our broadcasts to a new level,” Stony Brook Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron said. “We are very excited that Josh chose to join the Stony Brook broadcast team and we know that our fans will be as well.”

Caray will be alongside NFL veteran Erik Coleman in the broadcast booth for football, while longtime Stony Brook radio personality Curt Hylton will join the broadcast team in various roles for football and basketball.

Stony Brook reached a three-year agreement with Connoisseur Media Long Island, Long Island’s premier media cluster, back in May to broadcast Seawolves’ football and men’s basketball games beginning in the fall of 2015. All regular and postseason Stony Brook Football games will be aired on 94.3 The Shark. The entire 2015-16 basketball season will be broadcast on WHLI 1370 AM.

The 2015-16 broadcast schedule get started with the football opener on September 3 when the Seawolves visit Toledo.
