Warney named to Lou Henson Award midseason watchlist

Jan. 11, 2016

Boston, Mass. - Senior Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team was named to the Lou Henson Award midseason watchlist Monday.

The award, which is presented to the top mid-major player in Division I, is named in honor of Lou Henson, who won a combined 779 games at Illinois and New Mexico State.

Warney ranks among the top 50 in the country in points (19.1), rebounds (10.7) and blocks (3.3).  He's scored at least 20 points in eight games, including a streak of seven games during which he averaged 22.5 points per game.

Warney, who has accounted for 1,763 career points, is 216 points shy of breaking Stony Brook's all-time scoring record held by Emeka Smith.  Earlier this season, Warney broke Bryan Dougher's Division I program record of 1,609 points.

He's one of 23 Division I players to average a double-double this season.  Warney is one double-double shy of 50 for his career.

The recipient of the 2016 award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Award presentation on April 1 in Houston, site of the men’s Division I National Championship game.
