Seawolves travel to UMass Lowell and Hartford for weekend matches

Lowell, Mass. - The Stony Brook volleyball team heads to New England for two matches this weekend as the Seawolves play at UMass Lowell and Hartford Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out: Binghamton/Albany
The Seawolves split a pair of matches last weekend, as Stony Brook tallied a four-set win over Binghamton and fell to Albany in five.

Scouting the River Hawks
UMass Lowell enters Friday looking for its first America East win of 2016. The River Hawks are in the fourth year of their transition from Division II to Division I and will be eligible for the America East Championship beginning next year.

Katherine Claybaugh leads the River Hawks with 3.26 kills/set while playing in 11 of 19 matches. Lindsey Visvardis paces the team with 3.99 digs/set, while Lauren Bennett has been a presence on the block for UMass Lowell, averaging 1.00 blocks/set.

The Last Time We Met: UMass Lowell
The Seawolves swept the season series a year ago, with the most recent meeting being a sweep at Pritchard Gymnasium Oct. 30, 2015. Kathy Fletcher led the Seawolves with 16 kills, while Nicole Vogel tallied 40 assists and 13 digs. The Seawolves hit .409 in the match.

Scouting the Hawks
Hartford will host the Seawolves following a Friday night match against UMBC, as the Hawks enter the weekend looking to snap a three-match slide. The Hawks' lone America East win to this point was a five-set triumph at UMass Lowell Sept. 24.

Paulina Modestow paces the Hawks with 3.09 kills/set, while Paola Llerandi has a team-high 2.89 digs/set. The Hawks four wins have come against Manhattan, Central Connecticut, Niagara and UMass Lowell.

The Last Time We Met: Hartford
The Seawolves swept the season series in 2015, with Stony Brook taking a four-set win at Pritchard Nov. 15. Kathy Fletcher, Stephanie McFadden and Taylor Wilson had 13 kills each.

Serrano Named to Stony Brook Hall of Fame
Seawolves alum Jessica Serrano-Plugues '00, the program's all-time leader in kills with 2,205, will be inducted into the Stony Brook Athletics Rita and Kurt Eppenstein Hall of Fame Friday.
