Hartford, Conn. - Junior midfielder
Thibault Duval (Liege, Belgium) of the Stony Brook men's soccer team (7-3-2, 2-1 AE) recorded his second consecutive two-goal game as the Seawolves scored three goals in 7:08 to record a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Hartford (4-6-3, 0-1-2 AE) on Wednesday night.
Anatol's Reaction
"It was a well-deserved result tonight," said head coach
Ryan Anatol. "We dominated the majority of the play and had a number of opportunities to take the lead but couldn't convert. We fell behind against the run of play but showed wonderful character and determination to score three great goals and win the game."
Highlights
- Hartford's Udi Cohen opened the scoring in the the 57th minute, spinning and firing a low left-footed shot inside the far post.
- Time started to be Stony Brook's biggest enemy as the Seawolves let two chances for the equalizing goal slide by the wayside. Sophomore Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) set up the first chance with a ball over the top to senior Eduardo Valle (Miami, Fla.), but his breakaway shot was saved.
- Valle nearly redeemed himself minutes later by playing a nice ball across the face of goal to junior Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary), but the pass was cleared by a sliding Hawks defender.
- Stony Brook finally broke through in the 78th minute thanks to a fine display of skill and composure by Duval. A long throw was cleared high into the air. Duval took the ball out of the air and set himself up on his favored left foot, sending the shot into the lower corner.
- Duval was at it again with the winning goal in the 85th minute, taking a pass from sophomore Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad) and scoring from the top of the box.
- Gamwanya added an insurance goal 61 seconds later, depositing a feed from Erdei into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
